October Workshop: Inclusive + EquitableTM Leadership

DFWAE is pleased to announce a two-part online workshop in alignment with our commitment to promote and sustain diversity, equity and inclusion in the association industry. Participants only need to register once to gain access to both sessions. The content will set associations up for success in developing their own DEI initiatives and establishing themselves as a welcoming environment for employees, members and volunteer leaders. We encourage association executives to register their whole staff teams and even key Board members to participate in this critical education!

Session I (October 14) - Understanding Implicit Bias & The Business Case:

In this session participants will examine implicit and explicit bias, discuss how the unconscious mind works and elaborate on why understanding implicit bias is important not only for relationship building, effective communication, and breaking down common cultural barriers that exist in the workplace and organizations, as well as identify interventions. We will introduce the business case, effective ways to talk about race and bias issues as well as provide realistic solutions for moving the conversation productively forward.

Session II (October 21) - Cultural Competence and Framing Equity

In this session participants learn the fundamental role of “culture” in assessing strengths and capabilities, understanding attitudes and beliefs about cultural identities, barriers, and norms. Participants will explore definitions in diversity and culture; identify awareness of stages of cultural competence; practice skills in cross-cultural communication; participate in practical learning experiences for skill development in culturally competent strategies as well as develop an action plan towards becoming culturally competent.
